Smawlie - A Peaceful Log Cabin w/ mountain views

PROPERTY Description

We can't adequately describe how peaceful it is to sit on the deck of the cabin listening to the wind and birds while watching the sunset over the Smokey Mountains. At night around the Firepit the stars are simply magical. We purposely tucked the cabin high up in the mountains to achieve an incredible view. The Nantahala National Forest is literally our backyard! Swim in the Lake. Rent a boat & go rope swing on the Island. Hike the trails & enjoy whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River!

More information

The space

Seclusion, and the view of a lifetime - that's what this space is all about! Just look at the photos! It's real.

Note: There is no CELL Service or INTERNET at the cabin. You're not on vacation if you're checking email and social media! Just capture the photos and post them when you get back.

Also - our driveway is incredibly steep and it is gravel. If you DON'T have 4x4 we require you to hike the driveway. This is not an uncommon request in the mountains. Just be prepared for an exhilarating 800 ft. hike. If you still want to go to this area but don't want to hike the driveway - just search for "Frank's Landing" on Air BnB and you'll find our other cabin next to a creek - nestled in the valley floor just below Smawlie.

This area of NC is so beautiful? Some of our favorite things to do include hiking the nearby Bartram & Appalachian trails, swimming in the Nantahala lake, white water raft the Nantahala River, and fly fishing the creeks and rivers in the area. We also enjoy the scenic Cherahola Skyway and Deal's Gap (Tail of the Dragon). There's so much to do in the area - but when you're ready to relax we invite you to rest at night under the star canopy around the fire pit and watch the sunset on the deck.

Guest access

If you don't have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle you will have to park your car at the bottom of the hill and HIKE up.

Interaction with guests

There will be no other guests. You're going to be on your own - the way a vacation should be!

Other things to note

If you'd like - I can email you a file to help you with planning your vacation to the area. It will have links to activities, boat rentals, rafting, hiking, local restaurants etc.

“away from it all”
If you are looking at this place for a peaceful, quiet, “away from it all” mountain stay, go for it! This place is amazing. We loved every minute of our 3 day stay. Mike was very helpful and responsive. The cabin is cozy and has everything you need to be comfortable. The bed is great and my husband is very picky about beds. The linens all clean. The kitchen has all the utensils and cookware we needed for any meal. We grilled out steaks one night and used the fire pit. The stars are amazing. We thought the initials on the tree trunk seats at the fire pit were adorable. We also were lucky to see a dusting of snow before we checked out. We cannot say enough good things about our stay and are trying to figure out when we can return to experience it in a different season.

Great little spot.
Great little spot. Driveway is a decent hike specially if you had to park and walk all your gear up and down. Girlfriend and I did it a couple times just for fun. No internet required some ahead of time planning but was considered a plus by us. Forecast was “rain” everyday but really most days it consisted of a light mist in the am which cooked off by noon. We had what I would consider real rain maybe 2 days due to the hurricane Michael. Spot had everything you’d need, we cooked on the gas grill most nights of the fire pit. On clear nights the sky view was spectacular. We split our days between nantahala the great smoky mountains and lounging in the cabin. Of particular enjoyment was watch bald, white side mountain near franklin, and the alum cave trail to mount le conte for those that like a heavier hike (10 miles 3000 ft elevation gain). I would stay here again no hesitation at all. My girlfriend said at least 5 times upon our arrive how lovely the place was, and on the last day how she didn’t want to leave. We also had the great fortune to watch the leaves change during our week stay there

What a wonderful cabin
What a wonderful cabin! Eating breakfast and dinner on the patio looking out at the mountains was magical! Toasting smores over the camp fire was so much fun. The feeling of solitude you get from this cabin was amazing. A great escape from every day life. The loft was perfect for our 5 year old who thought it was the coolest thing. Lots of towels and blankets, which is always appreciated. We decided to hike the driveway since neither of us own a 4X4, and it was very steep even though our family is very active. I would suggest renting a 4X4 if you're not used to hiking or if you have older ones in the family. It did make us feel like we left technology at the bottom of the driveway though! Loved how we didn't have cell service at the cabin, we didn't even care where our phones were when we were at the cabin. How freeing! Perfect cabin for our family!
